Spotlight: Debbie DiBella

Hometown: I was born and raised in Greenwich, and currently call Westport home.

I live with: I live on my own with way too many books, lots of TV sports programming, things from my life and travels that are very meaningful to me, and a parade of friends and family that visit.

Tell us about the work you do. How did you wind up here? I’m a Realtor and an Interior Designer; I help my clients to have the amazing home they’ve always wanted. After an MBA and a successful corporate career, I attended Parsons School of Design and turned my creative talents to what I love best: collaborating with my clients to design inviting, chic interiors that clients happily recognize themselves in.

What did you want to be when you were a little kid? How does that play into the work you do now? As a kid, I loved books, puzzles, coloring, and creating elaborate outfits and roomscapes for my dolls and my friends. It took decades before I connected my childhood playtimes to a career in which I clearly envision what doesn’t yet exist, and use creative problem solving to bring it to life for my clients.

What problems do you solve for your clients? I help my clients to move from “Before” to “After” in their homes. Whether it’s finding the exact right house to buy, or creating interiors that make them feel happy each time they walk through the door. My clients may be starting over and want a fresh start, or they may be at a different phase in their life and their home no longer reflects their current lifestyle. They may want to update and freshen up their spaces, avoid costly mistakes while updating their home, or be struggling to pull together all the finishing touches that create an elegant home. Whether it’s Buying new or Selling a previously loved home, a full-scale Remodel or a simple Refresh, I use my expertise to create client homes that reflect their unique aesthetics and tell their story, within the boundaries of their budgets.

Tell us the best part of what you do. The client calls and emails afterwards telling me how much they genuinely love their “happy place everyday”. Like Albert Hadley said, it’s all about “creating a quality of life…that nourishes the soul”.

What’s your personal motto or mantra? Bring Happy Home! I passionately believe that it is within everyone’s reach to have an amazing home that truly reflects who you are and how you want to live. And, that when you do this, it will change your world.

Who’s your role model? That’s a long list. I greatly admire the work of many interior designers, and constantly attend design conferences to learn from the best. Same with Real Estate. I admire people who have overcome great odds and through sheer passion and will, have achieved their dreams and want to share it, actively help, and inspire others.

Where’s your favorite place to relax? Beautiful beaches, any coastline where rocky cliffs meet the beautiful sea, almost anyplace with beautiful water would do.

Tell us a favorite accomplishment. It makes my day, every time a client contacts me to tell me how much they love the home we collaborated on. In the past week, I heard “OMG, I love it so much” from a young client that I helped purchase his first home in March, and a design client whose kitchen I recently gutted and remodeled. I changed their worlds, and in turn, they changed mine.
