Spotlight: Nancy Sheed

Hometown: I am FROM Bardstown, Kentucky but I LIVE in Darien, Connecticut.

I live with: British husband, James, one high school aged son (with another son in college) and Crazy Daisy – our wonderful hound dog!

Tell us about the work you do. How did you wind up here? I help non-fiction authors and writers look as successful online as they are in real life when they are helping others to make their lives better.

I used to work in traditional PR for national media companies and magazines where we promoted breaking stories and writers. Staying current with the evolving digital platforms (websites and email) and with social media platforms was crucial to make sure we were maximizing the opportunities for the stories to get told.

What did you want to be when you were a little kid? How does that play into the work you do now? I loved reading magazines, Vogue AND BusinessWeek. I loved being a pen pal with strangers. I worked for my school newspapers and yearbooks – both edit and ad sides. And I absolutely loved throwing parties and connecting people.

What problems do you solve for your clients? I help them hold the vision of what or who or how they want to be online. Often, they know what they want, but don’t know how to get there, so I help them with the plan or strategy and then walk with them through the process of getting there, like a new website, email campaign, or book launch on social media.

I also help them take advantage of opportunities they didn’t even know were possible or beneficial for them to be doing with their online platforms.

Tell us the best part of what you do. I get to be my clients’ biggest cheerleader and fan. I love helping to make promoting them feel fun and comfortable, and not overwhelming. The world needs their messages and their help!

What’s your personal motto or mantra?  “In order for connections to happy, we have to allow ourselves to be seen, really seen.” Brené Brown

Who’s your role model? I am really fan-girling on women who have navigated their way forward in media, innovation, and women’s empowerment with a sense of authenticity, curiosity and wonder. Top of my list: Michelle Obama, Brené Brown, Beth Comstock, Manoush Zomorodi, Tara Mohr, and Malala Yousafzai.

Where’s your favorite place to relax? Near the water or the slopes with my husband and boys or at a music festival with the #SaltsmanSisters.

Tell us a favorite accomplishment. Running my own business at a level that is supportive to my family, challenges me to grow and learn everyday and allows me to help people who are changing the world.
